In this book, Antognini does an excellent job at just that. He is the first person to truly help me understand the difference between table stats and system stats and how they bias the optimizer. He explains everything in a highly readable and intelligible manner. Another absolute must read for DBAs and architects.

I have never seen such a wonderful book before ever on oracle performance tuning. The design and step by step approach is so intuative that i felt like the author is in front me explaining things. Kudos to this writing. I am impressed, the way SQL Tracing is explained with examples, yet to cover the rest of the book. This is the best and most complete book I have ever found on Oracle performance tuning.
